·          Whitefish celebrates a number of local festivals throughout the year, including the Huckleberry Days Art Festival every August and the Big Mountain Summer Festival in July!

·          On June 13, 2009, several new additions at Whitefish Mountain Resort opened, making the resort a year round destination for fun activities. The resort opened a two-hour, four-span side-by-side zip line and a new alpine slide this summer. Downhill and beginner mountain biking trail systems expanded as well.

·          Whitefish is located west of Glacier National Park, whose mountains began forming 170 million years ago.



What’s the weather like in Whitefish, Montana?

The climate in Whitefish is mild during summer when average temperatures are around 60°F (15°C) and very cold during winter when the average temperature is around 20°F (-6°C). The warmest month of the year is August with an average maximum temperature of 80°F (26.7°C) while the coldest month of the year is January with an average minimum temperature of 13°F (-10.5°C). Day and night temperatures vary widely, with the difference between the high and low temperature in summer averaging 32°F (0°C) and 18°F (-7.7°C) in Winter months. During the tourist season daytime high temperatures average 60 to 70 °F (15 to 20 °C), and nighttime lows usually drop into the 40 °F (5 °C) range. Temperatures in the high country may be much cooler. In the lower western valleys, daytime highs in the summer may reach 90 °F (30 °C). How to Get There

Students should communicate their travel plans with their employer at least 2 weeks prior to arrival in Whitefish. Students must arrive at Whitefish Mountain Resort between Monday and Saturday, between the hours of 7:30am and 4:00pm. Students have two options to travel to Whitefish Mountain Resort.


Option One- Students can fly into Glacier Park International Airport (FCA) in Kalispell, MT and the employer will pick them up between the designated times.


Option Two- Students should fly into Seattle- Tacoma International Airport (SEA) in Seatac, WA and take an Amtrack train to Whitefish; Employer will be at the train station to pick them up. For the train schedule, please visit www.amtrack.com If arrival to Whitefish is outside of Monday-Saturday, 7:30am-4:00pm, students need to make a reservation for lodging and transportation on their own.
