Upon arriving to work for Stop and Shop Supermarkets, you will be placed in a department that has the biggest need at that point. Students must be flexible with their placements and speak with their manager if they have any concerns. About Martha’s Vineyard and Cape Cod

Cape Cod, or the Cape, is the eastern most part of Massachusetts. The Cape is a popular summer destination for folks from all over the world, where you’ll find quaint seaside villages, seafood shacks, lighthouses and ocean as far as you can see.  Martha’s Vineyard is an island located just south of Cape Cod.  As one of the most popular tourist destinations on the East Coast, you can spend your summer exploring the many cultural opportunities!  Vineyard Haven is a community within the town of Tisbury.  This seaside village is a popular summer vacation destination that overlooks the harbor. Vineyard Haven is populated with many restaurants, cafes, and shops along its main street.  If you enjoy the water and outdoor activities, then this is the place to be for boating, surfing, whale watching, fishing, golfing and more.  Your summer will fly by with plenty of things to do in Martha’s Vineyard!

Housing Information:

Housing is provided! You will be living in Stop and Shop provided housing. You will be living with as little as 4 students or as many as 10 students in one home. You will have a contract to sign when you arrive, and will need to provide a housing deposit. Please see Job Profile for cost details. You will be able to walk, bike, or take the bus to work. Martha’s Vineyard Transit Authority service runs seven days a week, year-round. Monthly passes can be purchased.

Did you know?

 

·        Visit the Flying Horses Carousel, America’s oldest carousel. 

·        The island was a big spot for the whaling industry in the 19th century, check out the Martha’s Vineyard Museum to learn more!

·        The island is preserved in historic charm and doesn’t allow corporate chain-owned retailers. You won’t find a Starbucks or McDonald’s on the island, but will need to go to Cape Cod instead.

A typical summer on the Vineyard includes plenty of sunshine and occasional rain showers. The days are warmer and the evening can be cooler. How to Get There

Students should contact their employer with their arrival information.  Plan to arrive in Martha’s Vineyard a few days before your start date to complete necessary paperwork before beginning their jobs.  Students must arrive between the hours of 7am (07h) and 7pm (19h). 

Students should plan to fly into Boston Logan Airport (BOS), and from there take the Peter Pan bus to Woods Hole, MA which will drop you off at the ferry terminal.  From there, students can the Steamship Authority to Martha’s Vineyard.  The trip should cost about $45 US.
